Crown Struggles at Home, Drops Two in Conference Play

01/25 Mens Basketball

Saint Bonifacius, Minn – Fighting to remain a contender in a wide open conference race, the Storm men’s basketball team hosted two conference games this weekend with the hopes of remaining in the upper half of the conference.  Friday night the Storm took on the University of Minnesota – Morris and it was a battle for most of the game.  The Storm jumped to a quick 9-2 lead but the Cougars bounced back and took a two point lead at 11-9.  Neither team would get a lead bigger than five points in the first half as the Cougars took a one- point lead into half- time 32-31.

The Cougars came out of half-time and extended their lead to 11 points with a 19-11 run and than hung on hitting crucial free throws down the stretch to win the game 71-60.  The Storm were led by senior guards Michael Landers (Milwaukee, Wis.) scoring 18 points and Jake Jarvis (Kalispell, Mont.) scoring 17 points and grabbing a team high 7 rebounds.

On Saturday the Storm hosted Presentation College and the Saints shot a blistering 61% from the field in the first half, leading 43-31 at the half.  The Storm led 16-15 with 12:16 left in the first half but Presentation outscored the Storm 28-15 the remainder of the half and cruised to an 86-66 victory.  The Storm were no closer than 8 points and shot just 36% in the second half while getting out-rebounded 42-33 in the game.  In the loss, senior guard Jake Jarvis, junior forward Maurice Lloyd, and sophomore guard Steven Holladay would each chip in 12 points for the Storm.  Crown is back in action on Saturday, January 30th when they travel to St. Paul to take on first place Northwestern College with tip off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
