05/02 Baseball

Saint Bonifacius, Minn - Athletic Director Jim Hunter announced the promotion of assistant baseball coach Dan Nyquist as the new head baseball coach for Crown College.  This announcement came after the resignation of current head coach Thor Benson earlier in the week.  Nyquist is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Storm baseball program and works full time in the admissions office for Crown College.  Dan Nyquist is a graduate of Northwestern College in Saint Paul, Minn with degree in biology and biblical studies.  He was a member of the Eagles baseball team for three years including the 2007 team that went to the NCCAA Division I national tournament.  This will be the first head coaching experience for Nyquist at any level.  In his first season as an assistant coach Nyquist has been instrumental in the development of the Storm baseball team's development in the field and at the plate.  His overall knowledge of the game and attention to detail have been valuable assets to the program.  Athletic Director Jim Hunter, "Dan Nyquist will add a competitive spirit, strong work-ethic and core beliefs in the role and responsibilities that are expected of head coaches in the athletics department.  We are excited to retain such a great young coach and his role in admissions lends itself to a great opportunity to promote Crown College and our baseball program."  In addressing the team Coach Nyquist said "that he looks forward to the challenge of building the program into a competitive program in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and at the NCAA Division III but more importantly cares about the development of each student-athletes character and integrity in their walk with the Lord on a daily basis."  He looks forward to finishing out the season as an assistant coach and supporting Coach Benson and thanks him for his unselfishness in helping him develop this year as a first year coach with the Storm.
