Football Completes Schedule - Heading West
St. Bonifacius, Minn - Crown College has accepted a contract to take on the Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR. The Storm will be replacing Colorado College on the schedule and will take part in the Pioneer's homecoming game. The game time will be 1 p.m. (11 a.m. CST) on Saturday October, 24th. The team will depart Minneapolis on Friday morning October 23rd and fly into Seattle, WA before making the three hour road trip to Portland, OR. "We talk about college football being about the experiences you get on and off the field that shape the lives of young men. What better way can you obtain one of those experiences than taking a trip to one of the most beautiful places on the west coast and playing against an up and coming NCAA Division-III team on their homecoming,” said Storm head coach John Auer. “The athletic department and the football coach at Lewis & Clark have been nothing but hospitable which has led to our motivation in wanting to make this work. I think it will be a great atmosphere for the players and the fans as the game should be competitive and fun to watch." The opportunity to see a different part of the U.S. will be an awesome experience for the Storm who will now have multiple overnight trips including a visit to Eureka, IL to wrap up the season on November 4th. The trip would not have been possible without the administration at Lewis and Clark making the necessary arrangements to fly 50 players and the coaching staff to the great Northwest in October. The Storm will return home early Sunday morning and are currently working on a few site seeing stops along the way. Lewis and Clark was 1-8 a year ago with a common opponent in Principia College. The Pioneers won a 43-7 decision while the Storm defeated Principia 40-0. The game will be a tesst as Lewis and Clark plays an aggressive and wide open style. The Storm open the 2009 season on Saturday September 5th at Augsburg College at 7 p.m. and their home opener is a week later on September 12th against Macalester College with kick off scheduled for 1 p.m.
