Football Places 14 On UMAC All-Conference Team
On Thursday the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its All-Conference award winners for football wrapping up the 2008 season. The Crown College football team which finished with its second straight winning season in program history, at 6-4 and a 2nd place finish in the UMAC, had a total of 14 players earn All Conference with 5 players earning 1st team honors including senior offensive lineman Josh Prokosch (Brooklyn Park, Minn) being named the Most Valuable Lineman in the conference and was a key member of the Crown College offense that led the league in scoring offense and passing offense, Prokosch was also named 1st team all-conference.
Other members of the 1st team included Drew Milner (Sheridan, WY) who garnered two 1st team all-conference awards as a wide receiver and kick returner. Other 1st team all-conference selections for the Storm included offensive lineman Joey Latsha (Lima, OH), senior running back Lemone Johnson (Boston, MA) and junior linebacker Nate Richter (Wadena, Minn).
Crown football added 5 members to the All-Conference 2nd team with two more offensive lineman gaining recognition in senior Casey Reeves (North Bend, OR) and junior Nick Skumatz (Eagan, Minn). Sophomore quarterback Adam Hayes was voted 2nd team all conference at quarterback. On the defensive side of the ball the Storm added two members to the All Conference 2nd team in senior linebacker Jay McCoy (Maple Plain, Minn) and junior defensive back Luke Urbaniak (Argyle, Minn).
Receiving all-conference honorable mention were sophomore wide receiver Steve Boger (Cokato, Minn), freshman defensive lineman Brad Eliel (Townsend, MT), freshman linebacker Derrick Howell (Marietta, GA) and sophomore defensive back Marquise Dixon (Atlanta, GA).
In a season that started out a little slow with a young and inexperienced group of underclassmen the Storm football coaching staff did an outstanding job of showing patience and teaching the young players how to win football games as evident in a 4 game winning streak that saw two come from behind wins in the second half of the season to propel the Storm to a strong finish winning 5 of 6 to finish out 2008 and setting the stage for what could be an outstanding 2009.
