Lady Storm Drop Conference Home Game

01/30 Womens Basketball

On Thursday night the Lady Storm took on the surging Northwestern College Eagles from St. Paul, Minn in a conference match up.  The two teams met less than two weeks ago at Northwestern and the Lady Storm were jumped on early and were never in the game.  Fast forward to Thursday night and the short handed Lady Storm, playing without starting forward Stephanie Zroka and substitute post Sarah Berglund kept the game withini striking distance for much of the first half.  The scrappy Lady Storm chased down loose balls and scrambled on the defensive end to overcome a large size advantage for the Eagles.  Poor shooting continues to plague Crown as they shot just 22% on the night and turning the ball over 20 times.  The defense kept the game managable as they held the Eagles to 39% shooting on the night but an advantage of 42-25 on the boards including 9 offensive rebounds proved to be the difference in this game.  The Lady Storm were led in scoring by sophomore forward Mary DeVries (Chester, MT/Chester) who had 10 points and 8 rebounds on a night when she faced constant attention from the Eagles defense.  The Eagles were led by Division I transfer Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn/Centennial) who had a double double scoring 16 points and grabbing a game high 12 rebounds in 21 minutes of action.  The Lady Storm are back in action on Saturday afternoon January 31st in non-conference action against Finlandia University from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.  This is also the first annual Take A Kid To A Game day all children 12 and under get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket.  Gate opens 1 hour prior to tip off.
