Lady Storm Win Non-Conference Road Game
The Lady Storm took to the court in Minneapolis, Minn on Tuesday night against the Rams from North Central with a determination to win their second game against the Rams this season. In a game that turned into a battle for 40 minutes the Lady Storm made the shots necessary to pull out a 6 point victory on the road with a much improved Rams team from the squad that visited Crown in November. In a back and forth first half the Storm went into the intermission leading by 1 point 27-26. The second half saw much of the same as neither team led by more than 8 points. With some clutch shots on the offensive end and a consistent defensive pressure defense the Lady Storm won on the road for the first time this season beating the Rams 59-53. The Lady Storm were led by freshman guard Joy Murry (Kenyon-Wanamingo/Kenyon-Wanamingo) with 21 points. The Lady Storm had two additional players in double figures in post tandem Mary DeVries (Chester, MT/Chester) who scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Stephanie Zroka (Elk River, Minn/Rivers Christian) scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds on the night while guarding the bigger and much more physical Naomi Sanon of the Rams. This was also the first collegiate victory in women's basketball for interim head coach Brittany Stroop who took over the program in mid-season she is also beginning her second season as the Head Softball coach at Crown College as well. The Lady Storm look to build a winning streak on this season as they start the first of four conference home games on Friday night playing host to The College of St. Scholastica with tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
