02/16 Mens Basketball

The Saints from St. Scholastica came to town on Friday night to take on the Storm as one of hottest teams in the UMAC, tied for second place in the conference and winners of their last four conference games.  The first half was an exciting up and down affair between the two teams that saw two ties and four lead changes in the first 20 minutes.  The Storm shot a season high 56% in the first half including 3-4 from three point land.  The Saints led 42-37 at the half.  The second half started with a steal at mid-court by freshman Steven Holladay (Belle Plaine, Minn) but resulted in a missed lay up that started an 8-0 run for the Saints and the game went south from there.  The Storm shot just 28% in the second half to end up losing big 85-53 after a very competitive first half.  The Storm were led by three players in double figures the second time all season that has occurred.  Jacob Jarvis (Kalispell, MT) scored 16 points on 6-12 shooting including 2-3 from three point range led the Storm.  Junior forward Dan Pust (Somers, MT) scored 13 points on 6-9 shooting with 2 blocked shots and freshman guard Jesse Elsenpeter (Walker, Minn/Walker-Hackensack) scored 11 points for the Storm.  The Crown College men’s basketball team hosted the Northland LumberJacks on Saturday and left their shooting touch and legs in the locker room after the game on Friday.  The Storm shot just 30% in the first half and turned the ball over 11 times in the first half to trail the Lumberjacks 48-19.  The Storm did tighten up defensively and improved their shooting in the second half but still ended up in a lopsided loss 86-50 to Northland.  The Storm were led by senior guard Jacob Jarvis (Kalispell, MT) who finished with 17 points on 7-15 shooting in just 28 minutes of action.  Freshman guard Steven Holladay (Belle Plaine, Minn/Belle Plaine) ended with 17 points and 4 steals.  Jarvis ended the weekend 13-27 for 33 points in the two games and has led the Storm offensively all season.  The Storm look to break into the win column for the first time all season in the final two games of the season on Friday and Saturday as they host Presentation College from Aberdeen, SD on Friday night and the University of Minnesota, Morris on Saturday afternoon.
