Men's Soccer Shuts Out Rams

09/24 Mens Soccer

The Storm soccer team, disappointed with their conference opening weekend, took out some aggression on former NCCAA rival North Central University by defeating them 4-0 on the Ram's home field.  It took Crown nearly 20 minutes to get the scoring started, as several Storm shots went just wide of the goal or hit the post.  In the 19th minute, however freshman Jon Schultz came up big as he beat the goalie to a free ball and put it in the back of the net past a North Central defender.

Crown tacked on two more goals before halftime as sophomore Nathan Greene picked up his first goal of the season off of a pass from freshman Austin Petersen.  Petersen then picked up a goal of his own off of a cross from Schultz.  The score would remain 3-0 until the 76th minute when freshman reserve Samuel Ostergard would pick up his first career goal on a breakaway.  Junior backup goalkeeper, Jake Loeffler would get the start in the net and record a shut out with five saves on the afternoon.

"After a tough weekend on the road it was good to see the guys find the back of the net again and regain some confidence in who we are as a team," said second year head coach Josh Dunwoody.  "It was also exciting to see a few different players gain some college game experience as well."

Next up for the Storm is their first home conference weekend of the 2008 season.  It is also Homecoming for Crown and it marks the first time in several years that both soccer teams and football will have home contests on that weekend.  Men's and women's soccer kick off the festivities on Friday as they host Presentation College at 2 PM and 4 PM respectively.

Notes:  The women's game was canceled due to weather at halftime.  Freshman Jon Schultz leads the Storm in both goals (4) and points (8).
