Records Fall at Blugold Invitational Meet
On Friday, October 3, the Crown College men and women runners set several personal records and one school record at the BluGold Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Three women and three men set all-time personal bests; and senior captain Seth Brickley set an all-time school record. Two other women equaled their previous personal best times.
Leading the way for the women, and setting a personal record was Storm freshman Erika Stampfl who finished the 6K course in 26:58. Personal best times were also recorded by Shauna Palmer (28:06) and Kelsey Morrow (30:39). Hannah Dean (30:15) and Cherie Hecimovich (30:07) equaled previous best efforts. Sophomore captain Megan Kunde (31:35) ran a season best effort; and stong races were completed by Keren Dyvig (37:00) and Kristen Kalvig (37:04).
"Our ladies had a great day," said coach Rick Peterson. "We had a strong week of practice, and it really paid off. It was exciting to see Kelsey (Morrow) compete so well. She comes from a strong program and is an excellent runner. A few of the ladies are battling through some injuries with cross training, but everyone is still making good progress."
All three of the Crown men who competed in Eau Claire set personal best times, led by Brickley who completed the 8K course in 26:40. Following Brickley was sophomore Kyle Pitts (32:56) and Nat Sahlstrom (33:20).
"Seth is running extremely well," said Peterson. "He bettered his own school record by 17 seconds that he set at last seasons NCCAA national meet. Both Kyle (Pitts) and Nat (Sahlstrom) ran extra miles this week in practice and it really helped each of them."
The Storm men and women runners next compete on Saturday, October 18 at the Crown Invitational held on campus at Crown College.
