Storm Battle But Fall to Scots in St Paul
St. Paul, Minn - The Crown College Storm Men's Basketball team took to the court on Tuesday evening in St. Paul looking to end a 24 game losing streak against a team in Macalester that was looking to snap a 32 game losing streak one that went back to the 2007-2008 season.
Both teams looked nervous in the games first 5 minutes as the first two points of the game didn't come until a minute and a half into the game and the score was 8-5 after five minutes. The Storm would struggle from the field in the first half shooting just 32% from the field. They would also have problems with the Scots constant screening action consistently trailing behind cutters and giving a step to shooters as Macalester shot a blistering 48% from the field including 50% from beyond the arc. The Storm would trail 39-22 at the half.
Crown would regain it's composure in the second half picking up it's defensive intensity and pushing the tempo on the Scots cutting the 17 point lead at half to 9 at 43-34 just six minutes into the half. The Scots would continue to make big shots keeping the Storm at bay but Crown would continue to battle and with just under 8 minutes to go in the game the Storm would make a final attempt to overcome the halftime deficit when down 7 points a shot from freshman Taylor Jones (Chisago Lakes, Minn.) would drop and spin around the cylinder before spinning out on a three point attempt that would have cut the lead to 4. On the very next possession the Scots would hit a three of their own and extend the lead from 7 to 10 all but putting the game away for the final six minutes of the game and the Scots would eventually win 77-60.
On the evening the Storm would rebound from a poor first half shooting to shoot 55% in the second half and 43% overall led by sophomore point guard Steve Boger (Cokato, Minn.) 12 points and Mike Landers (Milwaukee, Wis.) would add 11 points. Dan Pust (Somers, Mont.) and Steven Holladay (Belle Plaine, Minn.) would chip in 6 and 9 point respectively.
The Storm are back in action as they host the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip Off Tournament on Friday and Saturday with a game at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday night.
