Storm Drop Saints to Win Final Two Home Games
Saint Paul, Minn - In a strange set up the Crown College Storm softball team finished their final two home games of the season in make up games against Presentation College at rival school Northwestern College in Saint Paul because construction on the new softball field renovations began last week. With overcast skies and a cool breeze the two teams squared off in conference double-header action. Both teams scored early as the Saints scored 10 runs in the first three innings to take a 10-5 lead and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 12-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Storm bats came alive in the fifth inning scoring six runs to pull within one at 12-11. After holding the Saints scoreless in the top of the sixth inning the Storm kept the runs coming as they scored four additional runs to take the lead 15-12 heading into Presentations final at bats of the game. The Saints tried to put together a rally late scoring one run on two hits but the Storm shut the door and came away with a wild 15-13 win coming back from 11 down to win their first conference game of the year. In the second game the Storm jumped out to a 7-2 lead in teh first four innings including a 2 run home run for freshman Gennie Bunting who also pitched a great game for the Storm. With the score 7-2 in favor of the Storm the Saints tried to mount a rally scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 7-4 but the Storm would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-4 and after a 1-2-3 top of the fifth for the Storm defense they scored four runs to win the game in the bottom of the fifth 12-4 for their second conference victory on the season and to finish the season with an 8-23 overall record and 2-19 in conference play.
