Storm Drop Two Conference Road Contests
The Crown College Men's Basketball team went on the final road trip of the 2008-2009 basketball season this past Friday and Saturday to take on 1st place Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran respectively. In the first meeting between these opponents the Storm lost by a combined 60 points but neither the Knights from Martin Luther nor the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran expected these two games to come down to the wire. On Friday night the Storm took to the court and shot 31% from the field in the first half and found themselves down by 17 points. However coming out in the second half the Storm cut the lead to 8 points with 6 minutes to go in the game but were beat at the free throw line in the second half with Martin Luther getting to the line 19 times and converting 13 while the Storm only got to the line twice. On Saturday the Storm took on the Bethany Lutheran Vikings who the night before beat Northwestern College 83-78 were held to 56 points for the afternoon by the Storm defense that held them to 34% shooting for the game while forcing 25 turnovers. Unfortunately for the Storm in a game that was within two or three points the entire game they could not overcome their own shooting woes in losing 56-46. The Storm were led on Friday night by senior guard Jacob Jarvis (Kalispell, MT) who scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and freshman guard Jesse Elsenpeter (Walker, Minn/Walker) who scored 12 points going 4-5 from three point range. On Saturday with senior guard Jarvis only playing 9 minutes with foul trouble the Storm were led by freshman guard Steven Holladay (Belle Plaine, Minn/Belle Plaine) who scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double. Junior post player Dan Pust (Somers, MT) scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Storm are back in action on Tuesday night against non-conference opponent North Central University at 7:30 p.m. in Minneapolis.
