UMAC Adds Five New Associate Members to Conference for Football

Saint Paul, Minn - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced on Thursday that five NCAA Division III institutions have joined the UMAC as associate members participating only in football.  Eureka College, Greenville College, MacMurray College, Principia College and Westminster College (Mo.) will join the UMAC beginning with the 2009 season.  The five institutions, which all remain full members of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), will join the existing five football members of the UMAC (College of St. Scholastica, Crown College, Martin Luther College, Northwestern College and University of Minnesota, Morris) to form a ten-team football conference.  Principia announced in January the suspension of their football program for the 2009 season with the intention of reinstating the program in the future.  The UMAC will receive its automatic qualifer (AQ) for the NCAA Championship beginning in 2011 after the mandatory two-year waiting period.  Crown College will face MacMurray College in the annual Dome Day on Friday October 30th with a start time of 8:00am.  Other new additions Eureka College, Greenville College and Westinster College will all particiate in the Dome Day as well.  The Crown College Storm kick off the 2009 season at Augsburg College on September 5th and the home opener is set for Saturday September 12th against Macalester College.
