Women's Basketball Opens 2009-2010 Campaign With Road Loss
River Falls, Wis. - Starting the 2009-2010 season with their fifth coach in four years and returning only two players who saw minutes from last years team the Crown College Women's Basketball team were in for a difficult first game on Tuesday night against the University of River Falls.
The Falcons didn't waste anytime in showing just how tough this season might be for the Storm scoring the games first 21 points in less than six minutes of action. A free throw by senior Stephanie Zroka (Elk River, Minn.) was the first points of the 2009-2010 season for the Storm coming at 13:12 of the first half. The Falcons would answer with 10 straight points to go up 31-1 before the Storm would hit back to back three pointers to make it 33-7. UW-River Falls would lead the game 61-10 at the half while shooting a blistering 76% from the field and out scoring the Storm 42-0 in the paint.
The second half wouldn't results would not be much better as the Falcons would out-score the Storm 49-18 in the half cruising to a 112-28 victory.
The Storm were led by freshman guard Jessica Lemke who would shoot 4-5 from the field collecting 10 points in her collegiate debut. Brittany Alverson would add 8 points for the Storm in her return to action after missing all of last season due to injury.
The Storm are back in action as they open the home schedule next Tuesday when they play host to North Central University with tip off scheduled for 5:30pm.
