UMAC Athletics

Crown College is a proud member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) within the NCAA III.  The UMAC currently consists of eight members including Bethany Lutheran College, Crown College, Martin Luther College, University of Minnesota – Morris, Northland College, Northwestern College (MN), Presentation College, and The College of St. Scholastica. 

The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) began in 1972 as the Twin Rivers Conference and was renamed to its current title in the early 1980's. Twelve schools have been a part of the UMAC conference over the past 30 years and the conference currently has eight full members.

The UMAC began its National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III membership with the 2008-2009 season.  The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference has been successful not only on the regional level in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), but also on the national level as the league has been well-represented at numerous national tournaments.

The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference shall provide for its member institutions opportunity to be recognized in its region as institutions which are in the forefront of academic excellence and athletic competitiveness.

UMAC Philosophy Statement

The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) is a group of strong yet diverse colleges. We will strive to enrich the college careers of student athletes by offering a range of highly competitive amateur athletic opportunities. Our primary focus is on student athletes, with an uncompromising commitment to athletic equity and to the primacy of student academic progress. We will seek to enhance the overall richness of our collegiate programs, for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni, by supporting teams who will consistently demonstrate the values of hard work, community service and good sporstmanship. We believe a strong intercollegiate athletics conference can also serve the economic and entertainment needs of our communities by providing consistently high quality, exciting sports options. The UMAC fully endorses the NCAA Division III philosophy, including the central policy-making role of fully engaged college presidents and chancellors.
