Intercollegiate Athletics at Crown College
As an academic institution and an NCAA Division III member, the Crown College athletic department believes in the educational development of its student-athletes. It is our belief that education and development is not limited to the classroom but can occur outside the traditional “walls” of the academe. From this perspective, the intercollegiate athletic experience is an opportunity for the athletic department staff to teach life lessons through sport.
We look at the arena of athletic competition as a tool for the development of tomorrow’s leaders. Athletics has the unique ability to put student-athletes in situations where they must learn to handle adversity, overcome challenges, compete with class, and work with teammates. The leadership focus of Storm athletics teaches student-athletes principles of self-control, leading by example, the power of positive influence, and personal sacrifice. While processing situations and circumstances our student-athletes are guided by coaches who are not only experts in their field but are also committed to leadership and excellence and committed to passing character on to the leaders of tomorrow.
In the Storm Athletic Department, we realize that our student-athletes’ collegiate careers are only four years long. However, the life lessons that are learned can be used for a lifetime. Having a small part in assisting the development of our student-athletes in this way is why we do what we do.
